This next book and song is alllll about confidence. From the sassy songwriter to the strong-willed heroine.
Good as Hell by Lizzo:
”Come now, come dry your eyes
You know you a star, you can touch the sky I know that it’s hard but you have to try
If you need advice, let me simplify
If he don’t love you anymore
Just walk your fine ass out the door
I do my hair toss Check my nails
Baby how you feelin’? Feeling good as hell
Hair toss Check my nails Baby how you feelin’? Feeling good as hell Feeling good as hell
Baby how you feelin’? Feeling good as hell”
Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy
Self-proclaimed fat girl Willowdean Dickson (dubbed “Dumplin’” by her former beauty queen mom) has always been at home in her own skin. Her thoughts on having the ultimate bikini body? Put a bikini on your body. With her all-American beauty best friend, Ellen, by her side, things have always worked…until Will takes a job at Harpy’s, the local fast-food joint. There she meets Private School Bo, a hot former jock. Will isn’t surprised to find herself attracted to Bo. But she is surprised when he seems to like her back.
Instead of finding new heights of self-assurance in her relationship with Bo, Will starts to doubt herself. So she sets out to take back her confidence by doing the most horrifying thing she can imagine: entering the Miss Clover City beauty pageant—along with several other unlikely candidates—to show the world that she deserves to be up there as much as any twiggy girl does. Along the way, she’ll shock the hell out of Clover City—and maybe herself most of all.
With starry Texas nights, red candy suckers, Dolly Parton songs, and a wildly unforgettable heroine—Dumplin’ is guaranteed to steal your heart.
I adore this song and book!
Both are about gaining or getting back your confidence and a book and song that empowers you to be the best version of yourself that you can be will always be loved by me!
This song should be Willowdean’s anthem.
She’s so sure of who she is and is a real risk taker even when it’s scary.
She inspires others to do the same and is passionate about the things she believes in.
I think ‘Good as Hell’ mirrors that sentiment in Willowdean and that’s why I think this song and book are a perfect pair!
Plus they both just make you feel good about yourself!
And that’s why I say:
“You go Willdean and you go Lizzo! Get it girls, way to live your best life! I’ll just be over here trying to do the same.”
