Flashback Monday: Keeping the Moon by Sarah Dessen

I LOVE this book! I believe I read this back when I was in middle school, maybe high school…anywho, it started a deep seeded love for Sarah Dessen (aka Queen of The Summer Romance) novels.

Find it Here on Amazon

Colie expects the worst when she’s sent to spend the summer with her eccentric aunt Mira while her mother, queen of the television infomercial, tours Europe. Always an outcast — first for being fat and then for being “easy” — Colie has no friends at home and doesn’t expect to find any in Colby, North Carolina.

But then she lands a job at the Last Chance Cafe and meets fellow waitresses Morgan and Isabel, best friends with a loving yet volatile relationship. Wacky yet wise, Morgan and Isabel help Colie see herself in a new way and realize the potential that has been there all along.

This book showcases friendships in the most absolute real and amazing way and the characters are all uniquely their own, with personality for days. Quirky, eccentric, and wacky barely covers it. They. Are. Wonderful!

My favorite character is definitely aunt Mira, she is a source of much laughter and sees beauty in a different way. She is a unicorn, my friends.

This book is also about learning to love yourself the way you are and how to be comfortable and confident in your own skin. That was so important to me as a young girl when I hadn’t learned what that meant yet for myself.

This book has especially stuck with me for many years for those reasons and many more!

Have you read anything by Sarah Dessen, if so what’s your favorite? And if you haven’t what’s your favorite Summer Romance/Read? Comment below and tell me alls about it.
